GUILTY GEAR PETIT 2

Original Release: Sammy, 2001, WonderSwan

The follow-up to Guilty Gear Petit basically takes the same engine and adds more characters and stuff to it, effectively rendering the prequel obsolete in less than a year from its release

Cranked out in just eight months after the first Guilty Gear Petit was released, the sequel makes some small additions to the original engine but not enough to explain why they were bothering to put this up against the emerging Game Boy Advance.

As the very short development time would suggest, the original game engine has just been recycled here. Some stuff has been tacked on though, mostly new characters (with the roster roughly doubling overall). You also get a bit more of the flourishes of the "big brother" games, such as the iconic "Heaven or Hell" before matches ... characters have their special moves listed in the splash screen before each match too.

It's pretty much the exact same game experience, though: solid but limited, extremely easy. I guess that lack of difficulty could make it a good little introduction to the series for someone completely new, but it won't really convey any of the main appeal or teach anything useful in the "real" series of games.
