Tokyo Beat Down is an odd combo of visual novel and beat-em-up that really doesn't do either very well.

Somewhat short, self-contained beat-em-up levels are spaced apart by some REALLY LONG dialogue scenes that aren't really funny, or interesting, or anything. Just something you have to mash through to get to the next fight scene.

But when you get to the next fight scene, it only Whelms at absolute best. The fighting action feels like a low budget D3 game (specifically it felt like a slightly more playable version of Yakuza Fury). The view is way too pulled in, leaving you unable to see enemies until they're already doing some running or jumping attack at you quite often. It also takes absolutely forever for your guy to get up when knocked down, which happens a ton with dudes suddenly sliding into you or just sneaking up and clubbing you in the back thanks to the nearsighted perspective. The game isn't hard, these attacks rarely do much damage, but it just screws the pacing completely.

Add in the lack of any multiplayer, mediocre music and lack of move/combo variety and this is definitely one to just skip right over.
